Now we have an owl format for our blog. Kind of fun anyway.

As most people know, we have completed the paperwork and have been approved to be adoptive parents. The agency that we are working with is LDS Family Services. Since we started working with them, they have gone to an internet based system for applications as well as posting posting profiles for adoptive families for birth mothers to see. The cool thing about that system is that it actually tracks the number of people who view our profile page, photo album etc. I usually check on the numbers every Monday morning, and yesterday, I was pleasantly suprised to see that we had shot past the 200 mark for views of our profile page.

We've said it severl different ways to lots of people, but if anyone knows anyone who knows anyone... we are still trying to find an opportunity to adopt, and they say that the best (fastest and most reliable) way to find a baby/birth mom is to make sure that everyone that you know, is aware that we are looking and that referrals are definately accepted by LDS Family Services.

Anyway, we are just trying to do our best to get the word out.

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5300873514529988098" style="FLOAT: left; A lot has happened!

We were able to get the basement floor poured during the first week of March. Then my Dad came and I helped him build the bearing wall.

On March 10th Valgardson & Sons, the house movers, came up and started getting set-up. We scrambled during the first couple of weeks that they were here working on things to finish getting things ready for them to move the house. they ended up framing in the garage end of the house for us so that they could move it more easily, and then they lifted the house up and moved it. They had the house lifted up off the foundation on March 18th, moved off to the side of the foundation on the 19th, and then they walked it down the road the 24th, rolled it over the new foundation the 25th, and set it on the new foundation on the 26th. The pictures tell more about the process than I can. Needless to say, it was pretty exciting to be able to watch the major parts of the process, and it is especially exciting to have a house sitting on our mud lot!!!

My goal for now is to get temporary occupancy within one month of the day that they set the house on the foundation. That will be April 26th. We've got a lot of work to do between now and then, but I think that it is doable. The heating guys came yesterday and today (April 1st and 2nd), the plumber will be there tomorrow (April 3rd), and hopefully we can get some electricity going this weekend. So, we are making progress.

We appreciate everybody's excitement and help!

How Firm A Foundation

Much has happened since we posted last. Last Monday, February 18, we were able to get our footings poured. They sat for a couple of days while more work was being done, and then we poured the foundation on Friday, February 22. We only had to work until 11:00 Thursday night to finish getting the forms set up for the pour at 11:00 Friday morning. The weather mostly cooperated, and it only snowed a little bit while we were pouring on Friday. The building inspector said that he hasn't seen such a good job done on rebar in a long time. The guys did a great job for us.

Next we get to start stripping the forms. That will be a big job, but hopefully we can get it done quickly.

Pink House? A big pile of debris. And so it begins. We are off to a running start. It was even warm enough at 7:45 this morning, without the sun yet even, that the snow was melting off the roof of the garage. I'm feeling good about our decision to get started this week. If the weather warms up like it is supposed to, we will be getting the house torn down and hauled off on Monday January 14th, a hole dug and footings poured on Tuesday, and hopefully a foundation poured by the end of the week. We are trying to hit a window of what looks like it should be warmer weather so that we can get the house moved before the ground thaws and turns into a mucky mess.

More pictures and exciting details should be posted in the next few weeks. Stay tuned...

First Pictures

So, now it's the end of January and we are hoping to really get going with the house next week. The excavator says that he will come tear the house down next week, and then we will watch the weather and hopefully hit a good week or two of slightly warmer weather so that we can get the concrete done.

We got our building permit back on December 18th last year, but we have been waiting for the excavator and the weather since then.

In the mean time, I have had a little fun using the neighbor's back hoe. I tore down the back portion of the house, at least as much as the back hoe could reach. It was fun and a little therapeutic. Now we will leave it to the excavator.

My Dad and I got a new power meter set up and working on the side of the garage, so we have power to work with. The well is finished also. Now if we can just figure out what to do with the two feet or so of snow that is covering the yard, we will be off and running. I'm thinking we'll have to find a front-end loader somewhere and just pile most of it in the field.

Below are some pictures of when we bought the old house, when we took the siding off, and what it looks like currently. The fourth picture is of the house that we are moving the night that we took all of the brick off.

This is turning out to be quite the experience, but we are excited to really get going!

Beginnings

And so it begins... the blog about our house moving project. We are a little ways into the project already, but we'll try to get some good pictures thrown into the mix so that everyone can se the progress that we have made.

Right now we are still waiting for the well driller to finish drilling the well. As soon as he finishes, we can get everything submitted for a building permit. We are hoping that by the end of next week we will have a building permit. As soon as we get the building permit, we can tear the old house down, get a hole dug, do the foundation, and move the house.

This last weekend we got all the brick torn off the outside of the house we are moving and most of the walls in the basement cut down. My dad and father-in-law also got the old chimney dismantled. A huge thanks goes to our families for their help and support!

We'll keep going with the project and update everyone as often as possible.
